Traffic conditions on June 6th 2024

The 80th D-Day anniversary will disrupt the daily lives in Normandy for several days, as some towns will be difficult to access.

It will still be difficult to move freely for two days, from June 5th to June 6th even if the organizers strive to limit disruptions for residents. Access to the esplanade in Omaha Beach will be impossible starting from June 5th at 6 p.m. A barrier will prevent traffic. It will be gone on June 6th at midnight.

On June 6th 2024, between 25 and 30 heads of state are expected in Normandy, along with numerous personalities, ministers and veterans…

 All of this represents around 200 vehicles and 150 buses.

To accommodate the international ceremony, work will also be carried out before June 6th. They will begin between May 1st and 15th, ‘o remove all obstacles on the esplanade. Even some Lampposts will be removed during the last week of May.

Vehicle passes will be distributed starting from the end of April. It will be necessary to provide the vehicle registration document and proof of address,’ announced the sub-prefect of Bayeux. In order to drive in the area on June 6th, cars will need to have a sticker, which will be available in town halls from the end of April. These stickers will not allow access to National Route 13, D 514, and D 517.

Residents of Omaha Beach area will have an individual badge to leave the area. However, it will not allow entry. Residents must provide their email address to the town hall starting from now.
